The purpose of the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee “is to promote and encourage the principles and ideals of the Democratic Party of the United States and to act as the official San Mateo County representative body of the Democratic Party of the State of California as set forth in the California Election Code. San Mateo County Democracy for America was founded in turbulent times: the US had invaded Iraq in pursuit of its alleged WMD and our country was deeply divided. The mission statement we adopted at our club’s chartering stated that we “shall seek to inspire the active participation of County residents in the political process, to provide a forum for communicating ideas, and to promote progressive candidates, policies, and reforms.” The statement was meant to provide a blueprint for our future, and it has served us well for more than twenty-two years.
